Research Description
Our biophysics research encompasses model bio membranes to study molecular organization, reactivity, and binding of lipids at aqueous interfaces with emphasis on revealing molecular level interactions. In a second biophysics area, we work with surgeons to understand the reactivity and decay of silicone medical devices in the body. In other complementary work in our lab, we investigate ions, ion pairing and water structure in solution and at interfaces. With regard to instrumentation, we specialize in nonlinear optical sum frequency generation, phase second harmonic generation, polarized Raman spectroscopy, infrared spectroscopy, and surface potential and surface tension measurements at aqueous surfaces.
